Muntather Alsawad was raised on a date farm in Basra, Iraq. He studied literary criticism there and published stories and poems in Arabic. Since arriving in the US, he has devoted himself to translating Iraqi poetry into English, as well as writing English language poem of his own, one of which appeared in an English anthology of refugee literature The Other Side of Hope in UK.
